As men, we don’t really think about our role as fathers of daughters as much as we should. We should all take a minute to sit and think about what kind of man our daughters see when they look at us. The biggest reason we should be doing this is because we are showing them how men are supposed to act. They see how we treat our wives, their mothers, and they get the idea that men are supposed to be like that. Does she see you bring flowers home for her mom on Tuesday, just because? Does she get a hug and a kiss from her daddy when he walks in the door after work? How about when she has a bad day? Does she see you cook dinner even though your day was awful as well? If not, then when she starts dating, and she will, she will think it’s ok for a man to treat her like that. If she sees you embrace and not hold her mom, if she sees you stop what you’re doing to tell her that she will always be your little girl, then she is going to have standards that will drop regular joes out of the running. She will expect a GREAT man and not an idiot boy. We don’t realize it, but we are their biggest male role model, and if we aren’t the best men we can be, then why should she expect the best when she grows up?
Every time you look at that little girl, she has grown a little more. She is inquisitive and intuitive, and she sees everything. She sees when you think she doesn’t, and let’s face it, she is a woman. She will never forget. Never let her be less than your first priority, and never tell her, “maybe later sweetheart.” Little girls’ hearts belong to their fathers, and one day, we have to give them away to another man, a man that we will not trust or think is good enough. Let’s face it, no man will ever be good enough.

It is a busy world, one that is moving quick, and there is no slowing down. Don’t blink, because it’s all gone in a moment’s notice. Remember that one day you won’t be here to protect her, but you can always give her the tools to find a man that will die for her, and treat her like the princess you see when she smiles at you.
